Emberly Asher (pseudonym) is an American author in Arizona who was interested in publishing her first book online and was looking for a eye-catching cover.
Being an avid book-reader growing up, I was thrilled to design a book cover, and have to admit... I do judge a book by its cover! But it's never enough to *just* design. I started the process by chatting with the author and getting to know her, her demographic, and the book style.
After chatting, I asked if she felt comfortable sending me a few chapters for me to better understand the book. This is a very important step for me because I wanted to best capture the spirit of the book by understanding it's contents.
The story is about siblings who start a band, a lead singer, and love triangle. Music was a huge motif so I kept close to the "rocker" theme. Because the author stated this was one of seven books, I wanted to use an obscured image of a face to carry throughout the series.
I overlaid this with an image of concert and a quote from the song Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll by Ian Dury.
